This plant has 5,000, spindles, audi when the. new. mill is complete: the town of Lowell will have a total of 2?,- 000 spindles. The new Peeriesb Mill is surrounded by a row of neat cottages for the operatives; when the cottages are completed the mill will have a beautiful lit tle village of about 100 houses of its own. -The officers; are: John Cw Rankin, president; Dr. Prank Robinson, vice president; , and Mr. S. M. Robinson, secretary and treasurer. The officers are the same for the other . mills. The annual meeting of the stockholders of the . Piedmont Brick' Company was held in the office of the Lo veil .Cotton Mills Wednesday afternoon. This was the first ' annual meeting of the comDanV and all the ' stock was represented, either in; person or by : proxy; ; The. company was organized about a year ago and has " been la operation tor ; the past several months. Mr. Li E; Rankin was elected president, BnnrrnvUno-' Mr. S: M : Robin son, and Mr.J Robinson succeeds Dr. F." Robinson; as vice pres Went. Mr, Jti. The plant of the( Piedmont Brick Company- is equipped with a modern steel end cut machine and is capable of turning out 50.000 bnck-a day : when in rush and under normal, condi tions can easily, turn, out 30,000 a day. The damage was estimated at aboul $800: Tbe young daughter of John Homesly,. living at the Vivian, was seriously if not fatally burnt early this morning. The facts a$ near-as we : could get them are as follows. rTbe was n the bouse alone and her clothing ignited and she ran out in the yard almost covered with flames. Help soon came to her rescue and tb flames put out. Medical assistance was immediately secured and every thing possible is being done to relieve her from suffering. J A. Durham, J. W. Hasten and John M. Scott, of Charlotte; Mr R L. Stowe. of Belmont; Col Joseph F Wal lace, of yorkville. S. C, and Messrs. S J. aud P. W. Hand, of Lowell. i Immediately preceeding the meeting of the stockholders the directors held a session for tbe transaction of routine business and to - make recommendations to . the, stockholders ; who met shortly afterwards. Barring the transaction of the usual amount of routine business no , unusual ' action was taken except in the matter of the office of secretary and treasurer. This office, heretofore combined, was divided, or rather the new offict was created- -Mr. R. P. Rankin, secretary a n d treasurer, was elected treasurer and Mr. S. S Shuford was chosen to fill the new office of secretary. Mr. Shu ford has for t h e past three years held the position of book keeper tor tbe Ozark Mills. He is a voun? business man of ability and will fill the position of sec retary with credit to himself and to tbe satisfaction of the mill's owners and directors Tbe board of directors and the officers were re-elected as fol lows: Directors Messrs. o.
